Valorie Cheyne, PhD
Valorie Cheyne is passionate about her work with individuals, couples and families. She derives satisfaction from working with people to help them connect more deeply to an inner knowledge of themselves. She believes that if you discover the patterns in one’s life that aren’t working and are then able to substitute new pathways of communicating and problem solving then you are able to restore balance and harmony while giving meaning and purpose to life and relationships.
She views the therapeutic process as an intimate and interactive journey of healing, self-discovery and growth. She is trained as a Humanistic therapist and believes the individual carries within them the power to change their circumstances. Her approach is creative and eclectic as she draws from many years of experience and training in traditional and non-traditional approaches to wellness, mindfulness and the healing arts.
Valorie serves on the Bio-Medical Staff of Beaumont Hospital, Royal Oak and is a Senior Therapist with the Relationship Institute. She is also an Adjunct Faculty member for Central Michigan University, Union Institute and the Michigan School of Professional Psychology. Some of her professional interests include relationship issues, anxiety, depression, overcoming fears and phobias, aging, promoting healthy lifestyles and living a fulfilling life.
Dr. Cheyne is past president of both the Women’s Psychological Association and the Women’s Survival Center. She has presented numerous seminars nationally and internationally on a wide variety of clinical topics including stress management, women’s issues, perfectionism, creativity, living a passionate life, embracing change, attention deficit disorders, grief/loss, adolescence, eating disorders, self injurious behaviors, effective parenting and play therapy.
